This duo was started in 1999 when Johannes and Magnus were still studying at the Royal University College in Stockholm.
In the spring of 2000 Sköld/Thorell were invited to represent Sweden at the festival "Skambanti Banga" (the sounding wave) in Klaipeda (Lithuania) where they performed a highly appreciated concert.
2001 Magnus and Johannes were presented in Swedish Radio P2 with a concert where pieces by P.Creston and L.Ekström were performed.
Duo Sköld/Thorell took on Europe by winnig the first prize in the "Wolfgang Jacobi competition" in November 2002.
This prize led to a recording at the Bavarian Radio and a concert at the Schwarzwald music festival that was recorded and broadcasted by South West German Radio.
In the summer of 2003 Johannes and Magnus performed a concert in the festival "Music at mansions and castles in Sörmland", where Johannes was chosen as "Young Swedish soloist".
In the summer of 2004 Johannes was awarded the prize "Stora Enso Kvarnsvedens bruksstipendium" which offered duo Sköld/Thorell to perform a concert at Furudals bruk in the festival "Music around Siljan" that was recorded and broadcasted by Swedish Radio P2.
Composers Ylva Q Arkvik and Ray Naessen have composed directly for this duo.
